WebOGNL is a web presentation framework for building componentized servlet-based applications. It builds upon the foundations of the OGNL expression evaluator in its templating language to allow for a flexibility unmatched by other web presentation frameworks.

There are two types of users of WebOGNL: the designer and the programmer. For most uses there is no need to actually write Java code to supplement the templates that make up your application.

WebOGNL is written in pure Java and requires Java v1.3.1 and Servlets v2.2 or higher. It was developed using Resin 2.1.10 and has been tested against Tomcat 4.1.24.

We are currently providing three complete examples (with more coming soon!):

• The helloworld application is a progressive, tutorial introduction to get started developing WebOGNL applications. There are seven complete and increasingly featureful WebOGNL applications in the "helloworld.war" file -- numbered 1 through 7. Install the .war file into Java application server of choice and you can access these applications via the index page http://localhost/helloworld.
• The notebook example is a simple but useful application that shows how to do some common web tasks such as navigation bars and handling web forms. This example highlights "revist actions" which enable powerful and simple handling of hyperlinks and forms.
• The test sample is a comprehensive web application which I use to test the numerous features of the WebOGNL components. This application contains examples for every WebOGNL element. It's also a great place for advanced developers to find working examples of extending each of the WebOGNL APIs. Highlights include: on-the-fly PDF generation (in the Hyperlinks/DirectAction section), on-the-fly graphics generation (in the Resources/Generated section), and live, direct viewing of the WebOGNL templates comprising the test application.

Note that we have been completely focused on the core functionality of WebOGNL and delivering the various example applications. So, we're just getting started on the reference documentation for WebOGNL.
